Rise of the Demomancer
East-northeast of Carlstow is Brune, a village slightly smaller and less diverse in both trade and population. it still enjoys brisk trade as it sits on the High Road to the capitol city, but its tributary is a stream suitable only for meager fishing. Though Brune is closer to the capitol city, it still harbors professional resentment against Carlstow for the attention that town naturally attracts.
Brune’s two chief attributes are its proximity to Carlstow and the racial intolerance of its all-human community. Depending on whom you talk to in Brune, either it has simply shaken out that no demihuman races have chosen to migrate their way, or Brune stands as one of the last bastions for humanity as elves and half-races infiltrate decent society.
It should be noted that even moderately liberal villages and towns poorly tolerate half-elves and half-orcs, so Brune is not exceptional in this respect. it is patently false that elves seek to expand and intrude into human territory, as they have cultivated their permanent kingdoms since centuries before humanity raised its head. Lastly, Brune loves money almost as much as it detests nonhumans, so it condescends to trade with the dwarvish Steinbrudd clan. This provides them access to blacksmithing superior to anything they could produce (they refuse to purchase from Carlstow’s half-orc blacksmith), though it forces them to be civil to the dwarves since this is clearly a one-sided relationship.
